Calls Begin for Congress to Stop Implementation of New Billing Codes

The Washington Examiner has published a new op-ed by Jason D. Fodeman, M.D. calling on Congress to stop the implementation of the new billing codes (ICD-10). Codes the op-ed says will "do more harm than good."  Why? Because the new set of codes, 140,000 in number (up from 18,000 under the current system, ICD-9), will force "health care providers to divert more and more scarce resources away from patient care to tend to bureaucratic whims."

Berwick Resigns

The Washington Post is reporting that CMS Administrator Donald Berwick, a vocal supporter of health care rationing, has decided to resign his post. Berwick was recess-appointed to the position by President Obama to circumvent the need for a Senate confirmation vote. The Democratic Majority on the Finance Committee was unwilling to schedule a hearing on the nominee in 2010 prior to the mid-term elections.

Government is the Reason America's Health Care System is Sick Today

In 1962, Washington politicians made one of their initial attempts to insert the federal government into the American health care profession. They proposed nationalizing health care for the elderly as a first step towards the total government takeover of health care. Legislation to accomplish this goal in 1962 was known as the King-Anderson bill. On May 20, 1962, President Kennedy delivered a public speech at Madison Square Garden (MSG) calling for the passage of King-Anderson.

Feds OK Deep Cuts to California's Medicaid Program, Threatening Access to Care

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the federal government has approved a proposal by the State of California that will allow the state to impose dramatic cuts to the reimbursement rate paid to health care providers. The Times reports: "California plans to reduce rates by 10% to many providers, including physicians, dentists, clinics, pharmacies and most nursing homes, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Thursday."
