D4PC "Morning Rounds" Wednesday, June 20, 2012
Welcome to D4PC "Morning Rounds" your daily review of healthcare news and information from Washington, DC and around the nation. These briefings will keep you up to date on recent developments and our effort to replace the PPACA with patient-centered reforms that protect the doctor-patient relationship and preserve individual freedom of choice.

"Obamacare's Secret History", Wall Street Journal
"On Friday House Republicans released more documents that expose the collusion between the health-care industry and the White House that produced ObamaCare, and what a story of crony capitalism it is. Outrage over this kind of cronyism is what animates the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street, whose members aren't powerful enough to get special dispensations from the government—or even a fair hearing from their putative representatives".
"Crony capitalism undermines public trust in capitalism itself and risks blowback that erodes the free market that private companies need to prosper and that underlies the productivity and competitiveness of the U.S. economy. The political benefits of cronyism are inherently temporary, but the damage it does is far more lasting".

"If Obamacare Is Judged Unconstitutional, Here's How To Reform Healthcare", Forbes "Before ObamaCare was enacted, the health sector was coiled for a 21st century transformation. But entrepreneurs moved to the sidelines, frightened by the huge hurdles from hundreds of new boards and commissions, thousands of regulators, and tens of thousands of pages of regulation spawned by ObamaCare. With the new financial incentives conservatives are proposing, the health sector would build on the core strength of our market economy, with consumers demanding better choices of more affordable health care and health coverage".
"The bottom line: It’s ObamaCare with its centralized, government control. Or a market economy in the health sector. This is the year of decision".

"Greek Health System Crumbles Under Weight Of Crisis", Reuters
"Greece's rundown state hospitals are cutting off vital drugs, limiting non-urgent operations and rationing even basic medical materials for exhausted doctors as a combination of economic crisis and political stalemate strangle health funding. With Greece now in its fifth year of deep recession, trapped under Europe's biggest public debt burden and dependent on international help to keep paying its bills, the effects are starting to bite deeply into vital services."

"Obamacare's Super-Legislature", Town Hall
D4PC: In case you forgot, it is not the "individual mandate" that is the most intrusive and egregious component of Obamacare, but rather the much maligned and oppressive IPAB. This existence of this often forgotten and illusive body is the most compelling reason the SCOTUS needs to find the entire law unconstitutional and we need to remove this administration's presidential veto capability.
"Obamacare is so unconstitutional, it's absurd. It delegates legislative powers that Congress cannot delegate. It creates a permanent super-legislature to supplement — and when conflicts arise, to supplant — Congress. It tries to amend the Constitution via statute rather than the amendment procedure of Article V".
"Fortunately, one Congress cannot bind future Congresses by statute. If the Supreme Court fails to strike down Obamacare, Congress should exercise its power to repeal IPAB — and the rest of Obamacare with it"

"Obamacare: Wrong For Women", National Review
The White House is making a special push to win women’s votes in November, among other things by proclaiming that Republicans are waging a “war on women.” But President Obama’s signature health-care overhaul is an assault on women’s freedom. It will drive up their health-care costs, deprive them of choices, and make it harder for them to find doctors for their families.
Here are ten reasons why Obamacare is bad for women.
