Governors to Congress: We Can Do Better If Washington Got Out of the Way

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

State governors recognize the best method to provide affordable health insurance to their citizens will require a customized approach unique to their particular population.  The issue is Washington has not gotten that message nor do they seem to care what the individual states are recommending for healthcare reform.  This is the problem when the federal government demands a "top down", "one size fits all" approach to a particular issue.  With the 2012 campaign approaching, the administration is trying to create the illusion that the president is flexible on letting states be proactive in addressing their healthcare needs.  As this article demonstrates, that "flexibility" means these governors must create insurance exchanges that meet the exact standards put in place by the Secretary of HHS.
